My Future Ex-Wife

As you know or may not, here at the RSJS we have the occasional guest star or two show up. Rob Van Dam, O.J., Tim Reid, Alfre Woodard, Pat and Vanna, Kanye West, John Legend have all made appearences here. Look for rocker Gavin DeGraw to show up soon. However, none of the celebrities can top what happened to me yesterday.

Yesterday was WEAS FM's annual Jamzfest, featuring a bevy of acts from hip hop and R&B and I would be one of the presenters of the show. However, due to the fact that we had bad weather all that day, plus coipled withthe fact that it was held at an outside stadium, it was postponed for a later date. We sold loads of tickets, but we told folks that
we will honor them for the future show. Personally, I was hurt for the fact that I wouldn't be able to introduce the headliner, Toni Braxton.

For those of you who don't know who she is, let me say that she is a fantastic singer, with such hits as "Breath Again", "Love Should Have Brought You Home Last Night", "Makin' Me High", and her newest hit, "Breathe" She is one fine woman who also wore a dress at the Grammys one year after J-Lo that put La Lopez's clothes to shame. She is also my future ex-wife. I've been saying that on the air ever since I found out that she'll be performing here and I'll stick to it. I say that because if she were to ever marry me, she would snap out of her stupor when she realizes that she got hitched to a dofus and drop me like a hot potato.

Anyway, I would go back to the radio station to do my show that day to tell everyone that she show will go on, but at a later time and that Toni will be there. Loads of calls came in from folks about it, some good and bad. I was getting worn out from the whole thing when my boss, Sam Nel buzzed the hot line. He wasletting me know that Miss Braxton will be calling the station and talking to me LIVE. Don't hold me to this, but I think my reaction to him was, "What the hell am I talking to you for? Get offa my phone so I can talk to my boo!"

No more than 30 seconds later, I get the call from her publicist saying that Toni was on the line for me and soon I was talking to one of music's hottest women. We talked about the show being postponed due to rain, but she was cool with it as she promised on ar that she will be back next month. We also joked about how she was my future ex-wife and she got a kick out it. But, I did tell her that I want to be the one to walk her out to the stage. Toni said she's hold me to that, which made me swoon. Yes folks . It's gonna be Toni and Sammy together again for the first time.

I don't know if it's a big deal when you meet folks in the public eye to you. Some folks treat it like it's an event. Some treat it like it's no big thing. In radio after a bit, I kinda take it as it goes now. But, the last time it happened like this for me was when I got to talk to Carly Simon for a bit and that was 1986. So, when I get to talk to stars who are smokin' hot, it's a rare treat. Hell, anything is better than sitting in a musty hotel room with Dee Snider.

I hope to have a podcast of the Toni interview up soon. Audioblogger is still trippin' and I'm hating the fact that I can't post a single thing as immediate as this. Patience, faithful reader. It's all coming together soon. Oh, and before I go, let me thank all of you who've stuck around during this period. We're only two days away from the RSJS's second anni-versary and we wouldn't be here if it weren't for you. So, if I don't get the opportunity to do this on June 29th, thank you all so much for being there and keepping this place alive. You guys are the family I don't have, which means that we're dysfuntional, but we care about each other and that's good enough for me. See ya soon. Love ya, mean it!
