Savannah's Favorite Lady

I have been wanting to talk about this woman for a very long time, but I wanted to wait until the right moment, and here it is. On October 14, the new Cameron Crowe film "Elizabethtown" opens. Being a huge fan of his work, I can't wait to see it. But, if you noticed in the trailer, you may have seen a quick clip of a woman in the kitchen talking to Orlando Bloom. Some of you may have never seen that woman before, or some may have seen her on The Food Network. I can say that Paula Deen is a Savannahian and we're proud of her. Here's an interview with her about the film.

Paula is the owner of The Lady and Sons restaurant, one of the finest places to eat here in Savannah. I've eaten there many times before and I can tell you the place is full of love whenever you walk in. It's also full of tourists as well, as they serve real Southern cooking. The stuff yankees always hear about, but never really taste until they get here. Being a person whos mother was a great cook, I know Mama would have approved of Miss Deen and her recipes. Now, I can say that Paula is a transplant to My Town, only living here for just over twenty years. But, since the opening of her doors since, we've adopted her with open mouths and glad to have her.

She's also the star of her own tv show, "Paula's Home Cooking" on Food Network and is giving Emeril a run for his money with her sunny attitude and a great Southern sense of humor with cooking up a thirty minute storm. The other cooks and chefs may try to lure you over with beef carpachio, but give me The Lady fixin' up a mess of chicken and bisquits with a side of strawberry lemonade and Red Velvet cake anytime. Comfort food for the soul is what she does and comforting is what she is everyday I watch. Now, she's headed to Hollywood with what could be the film of year. I've never met The Lady, but I know her cooking very well. Please don't leave Savannah, Paula. Who's gonna make us those 'ho cakes when you're gone?
