Spring Break Fever!

Well, here we are. My time in Winter quarter classes are over and I’m moving a step closer towards my degree in Legal Studies. It was a long and hard road and I had to back away for a bit from writing here, but I am still standing. Which means now I can relax until Spring quater begins next week. Until then, I have one week to enjoy life.

Ladies and gentlemen, Spring Break has sprung.

Now for most college students, Spring Break means drinking and dancing the night away from school, waking up the next day on someone else’s couch or the shore or a beach naked not knowing how they got there, but it must have been a Hell of a good time getting there. Sadly, I am now too old and also too tired to do that now. So, what will I be doing on my Spring Break?

Nothing. Nada. Zip. Not one damn thning. Damn it

Here’s the deal. I had originally planned on going to Orlando this weekend to relax and get a tan (Shut the frak up. If I want to tan, I’m gonna find me a way and become a golden god) after a friend had offered to drive me down since I have a P.O.S. 1993 Ford Escort and let me hang at their condo. Sadly, I found out tonight that her uncle is near death and she needed to be closer to home. I told her that family is more important than sunning away in Florida and that the state will be there for another day unless they can get their crap together in presidential elections this year or we will ceceed them from the nation the hard way. In other words, it’s been four years since my last vacation and it looks like the streak continues. Yay, me.

With all that free time now just wide open for me, what will I do? Well, not much. I mean, I’m a 41 year old college student with End Stage Renal Failure. There sure as shite not much for me to do. I mean, if I go to the beach to look at women in bikinis, I’m just gonna look like either a pervert or someone’s father or someone’s perverted father. The best thing for me to do is just vegetate at home in front of the television and watch bad TV. There in my recliner can I watch the news reports of perverts on the beaches of Florida trying to jock their way into MTV’s Singled Out Beach Party. Is Singled Out even still on the air? See, that is how old I am.

Anyway, if you need me for something I guess I’ll be here in town until further notice. Unless of course I get lucky until someone comes along with a 2009 Mustang GT and tells me that it’s all mine forever. Oh yeah, give me a reason to go middle age crazy. I might be doing some blogging that is way overdue here, so keep your eyes open as by Tuesday, I may be bored as crap and could fill up a whole web browser with ramblings

The Ides of May 17th

Dave Hewitt wrote a letter to me. Let's all read it!

Who is the official singer/group for May 17?  Here are some famous people
with birthdays on that day.  I personally think it should be Enya because I
love her music.  But it's your day, you pick.

1974 Andrea Corr (singer - the corrs)
1970 Jordan Knight (singer - new kids on the block)
1965 Trent Reznor (singer)
1961 Enya (singer)
1932 Jackie (John) McLean (jazz musician)

Okay, first let me say that I've been busy with finals for Winter classes this week, plus surgery on my arm again yesterday. I love you guys, but "Life is what happens while you're doing other things", a great man said. That being said, personally I'm not much of the fan for the Corrs, Enya's too damn ethereal for me,  and I don't know McLean. It comes down to Trent and Jordan and Trent just pulled out a buck knife on that boy band freak, then leaves to make good music. That leaves ME as the lead singer. Which is would be the right choice anyway if I did have a group called May 17th. So, there you go. Smarty-pants Dave.

It's what HAPPENS HERE May 17th? Asa for what it is, well just let me leave you with this. If you know what the song is, then it will clue you in to EVERYTHING. You can comment, but keep it a SECRET.

The Great Divide

Did you hear it today? If you did, then you heard history today. I don't talk race often here, but what Barack Obama said today was honest and from the heart. I know exactly how he feels about the subject and about where it all arose from. I've got crazy relatives too and you would think that The Man is out to get is everyday. That's why we have bar codes on everything we buy, if oyu sit there and listen long enough.

Anyway, I just wanted to know what you readers thought? Whether you plan on voting for the man or not, do you think that this was something that had to be addressed, or should Obama just focus on apologizing for one man's statement?

Your Hippy Dippy Weather Man

I'm here at the radio station typing this as it turns out that all of Savannah and the surrounding area is without power as we speak. The radio station has a back up generator in case of such matters, but this turned out worse than anyone could have thought. The National Weather Service gave warnings of tornados in the area and one touched down on a major power grid, knocking out electricity for over 150,000 homes. I just happened to be on the Southside of town when it hit and very carefully made my way to the radio station as it was nearby. It also has power and I could find out from sources how everything went down.

What makes this so ironic is that this is St. Patrick's Day weekend here in town and is a very big deal in Savannah. I went on the air on one of the stations to let people know that if they were on River Street or anywhere festivities were going on to please go home and drive with the upmost care then traffic lights were not working. I updated listeners on the tornado status and if they were without power and listening on a car or battery powered radio that Georgia Power is restoring everything, but that it would take time and please be patient. I look at the whole thing this way: We're safe and no one has died becasue of this, at least from what I know as I put this down. So on that note, I am going to take a nap on the station couch and get me a few hours sleep and pray that we'll have power back on my side of town on Sunday.

TV Party

This post is for everyone who loves old TV. I found a video of nearly an entire night of television, circa 1960. From what I can tell, this is from WBKB and features The Bugs Bunny Show, Bachelor Father and surprisingly, Calvin and the Coronal which was created by the same men who created Amos and Andy, only this time as a cartoon. If you get bored with TV this weekend, then this may be up your alley.

The Luck O' The Savannah Irish

I will not, repeat, WILL NOT be celebrating St. Patrick's Day this year. It has come early here in Savannah as the actual day falls on Monday and the parade is Friday. Personally, I have the weekend off from nearly everything and I need to get caught up on homework before finals week after next. So, if you would like to read some of my older St. Pat's rants, then you can go here and read up. If you'd rather check out the parade and you can't get here or you just don't feel like dealing with the drunks, the crowds, the noise, etc., then go here, here, or here.

As for me, I've gotta get a lot of work done. Call me!

"Time Won't Let Me"

I happen to like the name of this post as it's the title of one of my favorite songs of the Sixties from The Outsiders. It's also how life's been for me the past few weeks to where I haven't had time to relax like I should what with the patent pending Sam Johnson Experience happening to me. For one, it's been over a week now since I've been on the CPAP and let me tell you that other than looking like an evil underwater thug when I wear it, it's working well.

Now, that is not me nor does it look anything like me as I'm not plastic or chalky white. This is the actual mask that I wear every night for eight hours. Tha't right, I wear this for eight hours a night and I have no problem with it. I know thaty most of you are just getting claustophobic even thinking about this, but this is how I have to sleep due to the fact that I don't get enough oxygen at night, which is how rapper Pimp C of the duo UGK passed recently. Not from a drug raid or an angry video girl, but of sleep apnea. See there, critics? Guns don't kill rappers. Sleep apnea does.

Above is the type of machine I use to help with the breathing. Years ago when I first used a CPAP, the machine weighed about ten pounds and clunky. Now the machine is half that and portable with a humidifier build in with helps opens up passages while you sleep. Truthfully, I'm sort of glad to be single now with this in the bedroom. I look like something out of "The Road Warrior" withthe mask on and there is really nothing sexy about it at all. Also, snuggling to someone close could be out of question unless you two are into that kind of stuff. Let me say though that because of this little doo hickey, I've had the best sleep in the world and that is the best time in the world for me these days.

Sorry I haven't posted recently as I've been very busy the past week. Today, I was finally able to get online and relax a bit when I saw this photo for the new summer flick, Tropic Thunder. That's Ben Stiller in the front and in the blond hair in the back is Jack Black. However, it's the guy in the middle that has me thrown.

I'll let you guess who it is, but I will say this about it. I've heard some great things about this comedy, but I hope that the middleman has some Teflon on that iron armor of his before the NAACP jump his ass. Otherwise, this could be funny as hell.
